KCK History: Planning, Community and Renewal in Armourdale

Armourdale Block Party

June 26th, 2021

The planning team facilitated a block party community event at John Fiske Elementary school on June 26th. Over the two hour event, approximately 75 residents and stakeholders passed through the event to eat lunch and share input on large format plan drawings and photos. A Covid-19 vaccine team was also at the event to administer shots for interested guests.

Community Focus Group

June 19th, 2021

The planning team facilitated a community focus group at John Fiske Elementary school on June 19th. The participants were all Armourdale residents and the presentations centered on discussing Armourdale assets and challenges as well as identifying master plan priorities.

Kaw River Social

June 12th, 2021

The Unified Government joined Flying Truss and other community Groups at a community event by the Rock Island Bridge. Not only were attendees able to learn more about the master planning process, they also took tours of the bridge, paddled canoes on the water, and learned more about this exciting project.

Community and Economic Development Workshop

June 8th, 2021

PORT, MVRDV and the Unified Government led an online workshop with Armourdale community business leaders and members of the Economic Development Department to discuss expanding opportunities for Armourdale residents and business.

Earth Day Park Cleanup

May 28th, 2021

The Unified Government hosted a neighborhood clean-up at Shawnee Park on Earth Day, April 22nd. UG Staff and elected officials, members of Armourdale Renewal Association, and community members volunteered to pick up trash, pull weeds, mulch the playground and plant a Red Point Maple in the park.

Public Health + Safety Workshop

March 29th, 2021

PORT, MVRDV and the Unified Government led an online workshop with Armourdale community business leaders and members of the Public Health Department, the Kansas City Philanthropy Community, and public health experts from across the city to discuss expanding access to quality care and health resources for Armourdale community members.
